The lawmaker that represents the Akinyele/Lagelu Federal constituency, Oyo, Honourable Olafisoye Akinmoyede has strongly refuted allegations of violence at the All Progressives Congress (APC) State Secretariat, describing reports of an assault on a party member as a “stage-managed” fabrication.
The reaction follows a publication by an online outlet, IMPARTNEWSNETWORK alleging that Mr. Gafar Oyebade was physically assaulted by Hon. Akinmoyede during a meeting convened by the State Chairman, Chief Alake Adeyemo to resolve the executive list for Lagelu Local Government chapter of the party.
To set the record straight, Hon. Akinmoyede stated that the meeting was attended by the State Chairman, Deputy Chairman, Secretary, and other high-ranking executives who witnessed the peaceful proceedings.
While Oyebade claimed to be the Party Secretary, the official list handed over to the Lagelu LG Chairman, Hon. Fatai Awoyoola by the state executive, confirmed him as the Public Relations Officer (PRO).
Following this clarification, the state executive directed the party chairman, Hon. Awoyoola to proceed with the swearing-in of the remaining local government officers.
Akinmoyede also addressed the news outlet’s attempt to link the event to the 2019 killing of a former federal lawmaker. He noted that the High Court of Justice had already determined the case on its merit
“In Suit No. I/70c/2019, delivered by Honourable Justice Mufutau Adegbola on January 23, 2020, wherein all those illegally accused were discharged and acquitted,” he clarified.
Hon. Akinmoyede expressed disappointment that Oyebade, currently working under the Oyo State government as a public school teacher, would fabricate such a story. He reminded the public that as a civil servant, Oyebade is legally barred from participating in partisan politics or holding executive positions within a political party.
Describing the incident as a “recycled script” from 2022, Akinmoyede urged the people of Akinyele/Lagelu Federal Constituency to remain calm.
Lafi who called on media practitioners to verify stories before publication to avoid misleading the public, equally extend the same call to the security agencies to always arrest people who are fond of making a false reports to them in their bid to mislead the public to face the full wrath of the law so as to serve as deterrent for others.
These politicians always use this tactic every four years of political cycles. They should learn to play by the rules and accept the outcome of contests. “They used these same antics before and failed; they will fail again. It is only God that gives power.” Akinmoyede stated.
