


The South-West chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has moved to douse political tension, dismissing rumors of an impeachment plot against Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde as “fabricated and baseless.”
Speaking at a press conference on Monday at the. PDP South West Secretariat in Ibadan, the party’s Zonal Secretary, Chief Sanya Atofarati dispel speculation surrounding the alleged impeachment plan against the governor, insisting that no such process exists.
It characterised the reports as “baseless” and “contrived,” warning that they form part of “a calculated attempt to generate unnecessary political tension,” and urged Nigerians to disregard the claims entirely.
The PDP also strongly criticised former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, over comments it said were harmful to public discourse.
The party described his remarks as “irresponsible and self-serving,” adding that they were “capable of inciting tension, particularly through the needless politicisation of revered traditional institutions.”
It stressed that such conduct “is unacceptable and stands condemned.”
The zonal leadership threw its weight behind Governor Makinde, praising his administration for “stability, focus, and an unwavering commitment to delivering democratic dividends.” It credited him with helping to “sustain and strengthen multi-party democracy in Nigeria.
Central to the party’s position was a strong endorsement of Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, whose administration it described as consistent and purposeful.
According to the zonal leadership, Makinde has shown “stability, focus, and an unwavering commitment to delivering democratic dividends,” while also playing a significant role in “sustaining and strengthening multi-party democracy in Nigeria
The South-West PDP further called on Nigerians to remain calm, vigilant and united, warning against “disgruntled political actors” seeking to manufacture crises or destabilise the country in pursuit of selfish political interests.
Reiterating its internal cohesion, the zonal body pledged unwavering allegiance to the party’s National Working Committee under the Turaki-led leadership, affirming its commitment to unity, discipline and organisational stability at all levels.
They urged Nigerians not to lose faith in democracy despite current hardships. He said the party “remains resolute in its commitment to people-focused governance, stability, and national progress” and stands with citizens facing uncertainty.
The party emphasised its readiness to offer what it described as a credible and people-driven alternative focused on stability, good governance and national development.
The party thanked Nigerians for their resilience and trust, pledging “responsible leadership” and a commitment to a better future for all.
