Oyo NUJ celebrates Chairman Akeem Abas at birthday, commends leadership reforms

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Oyo State Council, has felicitated its Chairman, Mr. Akeem Abas, on the occasion of his birthday, describing him as an exceptional leader whose impact has been widely felt within a short period in office.

In a statement issued by the Secretary of the Council Temidayo Adu to mark his birthday on April 18, 2026, the Council lauded Abas as a rare breed leader, whose vision, courage, and commitment to excellence have continued to inspire members of the union across the state.

The statement, notes that the Chairman’s performance since assuming office has been remarkably impressive, leaving lasting footprints on the growth and repositioning of the union.

According to the Council, Abas has successfully restored professionalism within the Oyo NUJ, setting a high standard for ethical journalism and responsible media practice among members.

It added that through deliberate efforts in equipping and empowering journalists, the Chairman has transformed members into well-rounded professionals capable of adapting to the evolving demands of the media industry.

The union further commended Abas for restoring sanity, orderliness, and pride to the Press Centre, while also enhancing the dignity and image of the union before stakeholders and government.

The statement also highlighted his commitment to preserving the legacies of the union while driving progressive reforms, noting that under his leadership, the NUJ in Oyo State has regained its relevance, voice, and respect.

The Council prayed for greater wisdom, sound health, and renewed strength for the Chairman, even as it celebrated his impactful leadership and wished him a belated happy birthday.
