The Oyo State Government has said its renewed drive to bring all hospitality businesses into the tax system is aimed at effective data collection and ensuring proper coordination for security purposes.
The State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism Development, Dr. Wasiu Olatunbosun, stated this on Tuesday at the Oyo State Tourism and Hospitality Conference held at the Secretariat, Ibadan.
According to the Commissioner, majority of hospitality operators in the state are not registered, while those registered are not paying their dues regularly, a development which is significantly affecting revenue generation.
Dr. Olatunbosun disclosed that the engagement is the first of a three-stage process which includes identification, cooperation and enforcement that will commence next month.
He urged hospitality businesses to submit monthly figures of customers who patronize them to help populate data at the Bureau of Statistics and for security coordination.
Also speaking, the lawmaker representing Oyo East/Oyo West Constituency, Honourable Olorunpoto Rahman, reiterated the Oyo State House of Assembly’s commitment to partner with the Executive arm to build a tourism sector that is secure, data-driven and business-friendly.
The conference featured an interactive session with stakeholders in the hospitality sector, including hotels, lounges, nightclubs, eateries and other related businesses.
