The Vice-Chairman of Ifedayo Local Government Area of Osun State, Hon. Debo Farounbi, has regained freedom after spending three months and two days in kidnappers’ den.
The cheering news was announced by his father, former Nigeria’s Ambassador to the Philippines, Dr. Yemi Farounbi on Saturday.
In a statement of appreciation, Dr. Farounbi said:”I am happy to announce the release of Debo Farounbi from the clutches of the kidnappers after 3 months and 2 days. I sincerely thank all of you who contributed and donated funds and those who made various sacrifices for us to pay the ransoms.
“I sincerely thank all of you who shared in the anxiety, uncertainty, fear and agony. I sincerely thank all of you involved in all forms of prayers. I sincerely thank all of you who are working really hard to make Nigeria safe for us.
“God will give us sooner than we can imagine the better Nigeria of our dreams. Debo Farounbi is free. But we must make Nigeria free and safe.”
Hon. Debo Farounbi was abducted at about 10pm on Tuesday, June 9, 2025, in Ora, a boundary community along the Osun-Kwara border.
Sources said the kidnappers had initially demanded N200 million, which was later negotiated, with reports indicating over N30 million was earlier paid before the fresh demand.
His release has brought relief to his family, political associates and the people of Ifedayo Local Government.
