The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, has said he has no objection to politicians using his name to promote their 2027 election ambitions.
The monarch, a former Oyo State governor and senator, stated this on Wednesday while speaking with newsmen at his private residence in Ibadan shortly after observing the eid prayers to mark the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations
Oba Ladoja described all politicians and residents of Oyo State as his “sons and daughters,” adding that they have the right to associate with him and leverage his name for political advantage.
“All politicians and residents of Oyo State are my sons and daughters. They have the right to associate with me and use my name to promote their political ambitions,” he said.
However, the Olubadan cautioned that merely bearing his name would not guarantee electoral success. He said voters would judge aspirants by their antecedents and contributions at the grassroots level.
“Using my name alone cannot guarantee electoral victory. What matters is your track record and what you have done for the people at the grassroots,” Oba Ladoja noted.
He urged all aspirants and candidates to prioritize service delivery and programmes that directly impact the lives of the people.
According to him, voters in Oyo State will place more emphasis on competence and credibility than on mere affiliations or endorsements ahead of the 2027 polls.
Oba Ladoja served as governor of Oyo State from 2003 to 2007 and as senator representing Oyo Central from 1992 to 1993.
