The Allied Peoples Movement (APM) in Oyo State has formally presented its Certificate of Return to its consensus governorship candidate for the 2027 general elections, Bimbo Adekanbi, while also affirming Mogaji (Dr.) Akin Fagbemi as the party’s House of Representatives candidate for Ibadan North-West/Ibadan South-West Federal Constituency.


The presentation ceremony, held on Thursday at the Watershed Event Centre, Ibadan, attracted party leaders, stakeholders and supporters who gathered to witness the formal endorsement of the party’s candidates ahead of the 2027 elections.


Mogaji Akin Fagbemi, a Chieftain of the party and politician high repute with academic credentials including Ph.D and LL.B degrees, emerged as the APM candidate for the House of Representatives seat representing Ibadan North-West/Ibadan South-West Federal Constituency.
Fagbemi, earlier in a chat with Oodua News described governor Seyi Makinde as an intelligent leader with administrative acumen and a pathfinder for the party and people of the state.
Speaking at the event, the Chairman of the PDP in Oyo State, Dayo Ogungbenro, described the alliance between the PDP and APM as historic and unprecedented in Nigeria.
Ogungbenro said the coalition represented a significant political movement aimed at sustaining progress and development in the state.
He explained that the consensus arrangement was in line with the party’s internal democratic process aimed at fostering unity and avoiding unnecessary disputes among members.
According to party officials, Bimbo Adekanbi emerged through a consensus process designed to strengthen party cohesion and present a united front ahead of the governorship election.
They urged party faithful to close ranks and mobilize support for all APM candidates to ensure electoral success in 2027.
In his acceptance remarks, Adekanbi expressed appreciation to the leadership of the APM and Governor Seyi Makinde for the confidence reposed in him.
He pledged to run an inclusive and people-oriented campaign anchored on economic empowerment, quality education, infrastructure development and grassroots advancement across Oyo State.
“This certificate is not just for me; it belongs to every APM member and every citizen of Oyo State who desires a government that truly works for the people and sustains the good works already being witnessed in the state,” Adekanbi said.
The governorship candidate also extended appreciation to the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State for its collaboration with the APM.
According to him, politics should not be allowed to destroy relationships or undermine collective aspirations for the progress and development of Oyo State.
“This is a defining moment and a day of destiny when history is being rewritten. It is the first of its kind, not only in the South-West but across Nigeria, where two political parties have come together to chart a path of progress and shared prosperity,” he said.
He commended Governor Seyi Makinde for providing leadership and direction for the coalition and expressed confidence that Adekanbi would emerge victorious in the 2027 governorship election.
Speaking partly in Yoruba, the PDP chairman thanked God for frustrating what he described as the plans of political opponents against Governor Makinde and the coalition arrangement.
He added that the large turnout at the event reflected the support of men, women, youths and elders for the political alliance and its vision for Oyo State.
Describing Adekanbi as a bridge builder and unifying figure, Ogungbenro expressed optimism that the APM governorship candidate possessed the capacity and leadership qualities required to lead the state successfully.
“Adekanbi is a bridge builder and, by the grace of God, he will deliver Oyo State in 2027,” Ogungbenro declared
