The Obidient Movement in Oyo State has debunked reports that its leader and followers have joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) and endorsed Senator Abiodun Sarafadeen Alli for governor.

The movement was reacting to a news item that trended on social media on September 30, 2026, claiming that one Sunday Oni, who claimed to be leader of the Obidient Movement in Oyo State, led thousands of members to join the APC.

In a rejoinder issued after its conference held at Mokola Hill, Ibadan on October 1, 2026, and signed by its spokesman, Comrade Jimoh Alfred, the group described the report as fallacious and a tissue of lies.

According to the statement, the conglomeration of support groups of Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso, comprising the leadership of Obidient, Kwankwasiyya, Village Boys, Transform Nigeria and other Obi support groups across Oyo State, resolved to set the records straight.

The movement stated that Mr. Sunday Oni was never elected or appointed as leader of the Obidient Movement in Oyo State and therefore could not have led its members to the APC.

“For the avoidance of doubt, we wish to say unequivocally that Mr. Sunday Oni was not and is not the Obidient leader in Oyo State, and he did not move into APC with the followers of Obidient in Oyo State. If there were anybody with him during the so-called declaration, they could be some ‘rent-a-crowd’ or at best members of his freelance and scavenging politicians, masquerading as Obidients to gain clout,” the statement read.

It added that anyone familiar with the Obidient Movement would know that no genuine Obidient leader would align with the APC, describing the claim as a wicked lie aimed at deceiving the public and confusing true Obidients in the state.

The group reaffirmed its loyalty to its principal, Mr. Peter Obi and his running mate, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, saying its focus remains putting the duo in Aso Rock in 2027.

“Our focus is on putting the duo in Aso Rock come 2027 and there is no amount of filthy money and ill-gotten wealth from any politician that can buy our loyalty to sway us from this God-inspired assignment,” it said.

The movement urged Obidients in Oyo State and well-meaning Nigerians who believe a new Nigeria is possible to disregard the report.

“We keep wondering how they continue to say that Obi and the Obidients are inconsequential, yet they go about dropping our ‘brand name’ and on the other hand viciously attacking our Principal at every opportunity,” the group queried.

It also announced that the “OK Ticket” Obi and Kwankwaso remains the only viable vehicle to salvage the country from hunger, corruption, debt and ineptitude, which it said the APC has plunged the nation into since 2015.

“All Nigerians should join hands with Obi and Kwankwaso to chase this ignoble party out of Aso Rock come 2027,” Comrade Alfred stated.
