The Founder of the Olusegun Elijah Olasunkanmi Foundation and former senatorial aspirant for Osun West Senatorial District, Olusegun Elijah Olasunkanmi, has sympathised with victims of the recent flood disaster that ravaged some parts of Osogbo, the Osun State capital, leaving residents to grapple with the loss of property and other valuables.

It would be recalled that the recent flooding affected several areas of Osogbo, the Osun State capital, including Ijetu, Isale Osun, Oke Osun, Gbodofon, Ogo-Oluwa, Omigade, Oke Arungbo, Baruwa Estate, Aregbe/Abija, Koledowo, Ayekale, Famson Area, Oke Baale, Sasa, Ilesa Garage area, Zone 10 behind the Capital area, and Zones 11 and 12 around Oke Arungbo, leaving several residents counting their losses following the destruction of properties and other valuables by floodwater

Reacting to the development, Olasunkanmi expressed concern over the devastating impact of the flooding on affected residents, particularly families whose homes and belongings were damaged by the heavy rainfall and rising floodwater.

He described the incident as unfortunate, noting that the disaster had brought untold hardship to residents who were already facing various economic challenges.

The foundation founder extended his heartfelt sympathy to all those affected by the disaster, urging them to remain hopeful despite the difficulties arising from the incident.

He called on relevant government agencies, emergency management authorities, community leaders and well-meaning individuals to support the affected residents by providing necessary relief materials and assistance to help them recover from their losses.

Olasunkanmi also stressed the need for prompt intervention in flood-affected communities to prevent further damage and reduce the suffering of residents whose homes and livelihoods had been affected.

He emphasised the importance of sustainable measures to address recurring flooding in Osogbo, including improved drainage systems, regular clearance of waterways and proper waste disposal practices.

He said: “effective collaboration among government agencies, residents and community-based organisations is essential to tackling environmental challenges and preventing avoidable disasters.

He further urged residents to cooperate with relevant authorities by avoiding the indiscriminate dumping of refuse in drainage channels and complying with environmental guidelines designed to reduce the risk of flooding.

Olasunkanmi reaffirmed his commitment to humanitarian service through the Olusegun Elijah Olasunkanmi Foundation, expressing solidarity with the affected families and calling for collective efforts to provide relief, restore hope and strengthen flood prevention measures across Osogbo and other vulnerable communities in Osun State.
