Ex- Lawmaker and Medical Laboratory Leader, Kunle Jenrade Dies at 76

The Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria (AMLSN), Oyo State Branch, has announced the death of Honourable Kunle Jenrade, a former member of the House of Representatives and a prominent figure in Nigeria’s medical laboratory science profession.

According to a statement issued and signed by the AMLSN Oyo State Chairman, Mrs. Akinbile Adebola, and the State Publicity Secretary, MLS Fasasi Abdulkabir., Jenrade died on Friday, May 1, 2026, at the age of 76 after a brief illness.

Born on July 3, 1950, the late Jenrade hailed from Ona-Ara/Egbeda Local Government Area of Oyo State. He served as a member of the House of Representatives between 1999 and 2003, representing the Ona-Ara/Egbeda Federal Constituency during Nigeria’s 4th National Assembly under the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

A trained Medical Laboratory Scientist, Jenrade earned both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Medical Laboratory Science from the University of Ibadan. He was a Fellow of the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN) and also served on its Governing Board.

During his time in the National Assembly, he played a key role in sponsoring and advancing the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria Act 11 of 2003, a landmark legislation that strengthened the regulation and professional standards of medical laboratory practice in the country.

Beyond politics, Jenrade was the Chief Executive Officer of Crown Laboratory Nigeria Ltd., where he was widely regarded for his commitment to quality healthcare delivery and professional excellence.

The AMLSN described him as a philanthropist, mentor, and elder statesman who made lasting contributions to the growth of medical laboratory science in Nigeria. His death, the association noted, represents a significant loss to the profession, Oyo State, and the nation.

He is survived by his wife, children, and extended family.

The association extended its condolences to his family, colleagues, and associates both within Nigeria and in the diaspora.

He will be buried today according to Islamic rites.
