Titled, The Tinubu Enigma: Tinubuism, Democratic Continuity and the Future of Nigeria, the approximately 300-page volume was authored by veteran journalist Lanre Ogundipe, a former President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) and former President of the African Union of Journalists.

According to a statement issued by the author on Thursday, October 1, 2026, the book is neither intended as praise literature nor partisan condemnation, but as “an attempt at political interpretation.”

The book examines President Tinubu not merely as an individual politician, but as a broader political phenomenon shaped by power, strategy, coalition management, institutional influence and the demands of governing a complex federation.

The early chapters reportedly examine Tinubu as a strategist, coalition builder and political organiser operating within Nigeria’s evolving democratic terrain.

The later chapters address questions relating to governance, legitimacy, reform, institutional endurance, democratic accountability, historical judgment and the possible emergence of what could eventually be understood as “Tinubuism.”

The author, however, makes it clear that the concept of Tinubuism is not presented as an established political doctrine.

Rather, the book seeks to examine whether recurring patterns in Tinubu’s political evolution could be understood as a distinctive method of political organisation, coalition management and democratic power management in contemporary Nigeria.

“The study also places the Tinubu political experience within the broader context of Nigeria’s Fourth Republic and the wider African experience of statecraft, democratic consolidation and political leadership.

Described as a collection of essays, some of which were previously published in the media while others have been substantially developed or newly written, The Tinubu Enigma brings together political commentary, analysis and historical reflection.

According to the author, the book seeks to contribute to a deeper understanding of one of the most consequential political trajectories in contemporary Nigeria.

He said the manuscript has undergone substantial editorial development and has been reviewed by scholars and analysts ahead of publication, with the process generating critical assessments of its arguments and approach.

“The book is expected to attract the interest of scholars, political practitioners, journalists, researchers, students and members of the wider public interested in Nigerian politics, democratic development and the future of the Nigerian Republic.”

The author said further details concerning the publication and public presentation of the book would be announced in due course.

Ogundipe, who is a veteran journalist, previously served as President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists and President of the African Union of Journalists.

He said the forthcoming publication is therefore positioned as an attempt to stimulate wider intellectual and public discussion on political leadership, democratic continuity, governance and the evolving character of Nigeria’s political system.
