The Osi Balogun of Ibadanland, Oba Olubunmi Isioye-Dada, has repotedly joined his ancestors

A palace source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed the monarch’s death in a telephone conversation with newsmen on Friday.

According to the source, Oba Isioye-Dada died at his residence in Ibadan after a brief illness.

The source further disclosed that a delegation of Omo Oye had already proceeded to the late chief’s residence following news of his passing.

Until his death, Oba Isioye-Dada occupied the prestigious position of Osi Balogun of Ibadanland, one of the most prominent titles within the traditional chieftaincy hierarchy of the ancient city.

His demise is expected to set in motion a series of promotions within the Balogun line of the Ibadan traditional succession system, affecting several chiefs and high chiefs, including All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain and governorship aspirant, Senator Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli.

In line with the established succession structure and subject to the approval of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, Senator Alli is expected to move from the position of Ekaarun Balogun to Ekerin Balogun of Ibadanland.

Similarly, Oba Akeem Mobolaji Adewoyin is expected to advance from Ekerin Balogun to the rank of Asipa Balogun as the succession process unfolds.

The Ibadan chieftaincy system, renowned for its unique and orderly succession arrangement, traditionally ensures that vacancies created by death or elevation are filled through a structured chain of promotions among members of the Balogun and Otun lines.

Official announcements regarding the succession process are expected in the coming days.
