New Leadership Emerges In Oyo State Labour Veterans Association

Barrister Comrade Veteran Elijah Oluboade Abiala has been elevated as the substantive President of the Oyo State Labour Veterans Association following the vacuum created by the demise of the former president J.K. Shittu. The new leadership aims to champion veterans welfare and sustain the state’s industrial harmony.

In a communique issued at the end of its statutory monthly meeting held on Tuesday, June 2, 2026 at Labour House, American Quarters, Agodi-Gate, Ibadan, members unanimously approved Barrister Comrade Veteran Elijah Oluboade Abiala as its president with Comrade Veteran Ben Olaleye becoming the Vice President. Comrade Veteran Elijah Oluboade Abiala was the Vice President of the association. Born on October 20, 1953, Comrade Veteran Elijah Oluboade Abiala has held several union and community positions among which are State Secretary, Nigerian Union Of Teachers, Oyo State Wing, State Secretary, Nigeria Labour Congress, Oyo State Council, member, Ibadan Action Council(IAC), former president, Oluyole Progressive Front ’91(OPF ’91), currently Legal Adviser, Ibadan Progressive Forum (IPF). He is the Managing Partner, Olu Abiala & Co, Solemilia Chambers, Akobo,Ibadan.

The association extends its heartfelt sympathy to the families of the two teachers killed during the kidnap incident that occurred in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State. It further prayed for God Almighty mercy upon the abducted teachers and pupils to regain their freedom without any harm. The association called on all the security agencies to intensify efforts towards ensuring the rescue of the abductees, while advising the public against branding unverified alarms which could jeopardize the ongoing rescue efforts.

The association’s new president inaugurated a five-member constitution review committee to remodel its old constitution. Members of the committee are, Comrade Veteran Remi Adediji,Chairman, Comrade Veteran Segun Adeyemo, Comrade Veteran Kikelomo Ayedun, Comrade Veteran Cosmas Olalekan Oni, and Comrade Veteran Mojeed Badru as members.

The association later felicitated and offered prayers for members born in the month of June.

Present at the well-attended meeting were veteran labour leaders led by Honourable Comrade Veteran Ibrahim Bolomope.
