The Governor of Oyo State and Presidential Candidate of the Allied People’s Movement (APM), ‘Seyi Makinde, has hailed Nigeria’s Under-17 women’s football team, the Flamingos, for their historic triumph at the FIFA Under-17 Women’s World Cup, describing the feat as a powerful demonstration of the talent, resilience, discipline and unity that define the Nigerian spirit.
Makinde, in a statement issued on Sunday by his Special Adviser on Media, Dr Sulaimon Olanrewaju, said the team’s success serves as an inspiration to Nigerians and a reminder that unity, teamwork and a shared commitment to a common goal remain the surest path to overcoming challenges and achieving greatness.
The governor said: “Today, Nigeria celebrates a historic achievement by our Under-17 women’s team, the Flamingos.
“This victory is a testament to the talent, discipline, determination and indomitable Nigerian spirit that our young athletes displayed throughout the competition. You have made our nation proud and demonstrated to the world that Nigerian youths can achieve greatness when given the right support and opportunity.
“Beyond the trophy, your success carries an important lesson for all Nigerians. It reminds us that unity, teamwork and a shared commitment to a common goal are the keys to overcoming even the most difficult challenges.
“Just as the Flamingos stood together through moments of pressure, our nation must continue to embrace cohesion, mutual respect and collective purpose in building a stronger and more prosperous Nigeria.
“I extend my heartfelt congratulations to the players, coaches, families, supporters and, indeed, every Nigerian who stood behind this team. May this historic triumph inspire a new generation of young Nigerians to dream big, work hard and believe in the limitless possibilities of our great nation.
“Once again, congratulations to our champions. Nigeria celebrates you.”
