The Vice Chairperson of BarryFest narrated how the respected musician’s name helped her overcome an unexpected challenge while returning to the United States after attending the annual festival held in honour of the late Fuji legend.

According to the account, the official encountered difficulties at the airport when her luggage exceeded the airline’s approved weight limit, resulting in excess baggage charges estimated at several hundreds of thousands of naira.

Faced with the possibility of paying the substantial fees or leaving behind some of her belongings, she reportedly opted to remove several items from her luggage, including BarryFest programmes and souvenirs intended for members of the organisation abroad who were unable to attend the event.

However, the situation took an unexpected turn when an airport supervisor noticed one of the BarryFest programmes and inquired whether it was related to Barrister.

After she explained that she had travelled to Nigeria specifically to attend the festival in honour of the late musician and that the materials were meant for supporters overseas, the supervisor reportedly expressed admiration for Barrister and offered assistance.

The intervention helped resolve the baggage issue and spared her from the burden of paying the hefty excess luggage charges.

The experience has since been described by BarryFest supporters as another testament to the lasting goodwill and respect that the late Fuji maestro continues to enjoy years after his death.

Organisers noted that Barrister’s influence extends beyond music, citing his contributions to society, leadership within the entertainment industry, and the positive relationships he cultivated during his lifetime.

They maintained that the incident serves as a powerful reminder of the value of building a legacy founded on integrity, excellence, and service to humanity.

Supporters of the late musician said the airport encounter demonstrated that, even sixteen years after his passing, the name of Barrister continues to inspire admiration and create opportunities for those associated with his legacy.

BarryFest, established to celebrate the life and achievements of the Fuji pioneer, concluded its 2026 edition on a successful note, attracting admirers, cultural enthusiasts and music lovers from within and outside Nigeria.

Many participants described the airport incident as further evidence that the legacy of Sikiru Ayinde Barrister remains vibrant and influential, continuing to resonate across generations of Fuji music enthusiasts.
