  1. What is Yorubaland? Yorubaland can be defined as the geographical entity inhabiting the people known as Yoruba extending from the south of Nigeria to Benin Republic. However, the inhabitants of this entity is rather a fraction of what we call Yoruba race. Yoruba race is defined as a special and ancient people who mythology believes migrated from their source or origin of creation known as Ile-Ife. This migration led to the dispersal of the people to several countries both in Africa and the Diaspora viz. South of Nigeria, Benin Republic, Togo, Sierra-Leone, Ghana, Sudan, Brazil and Trinidad & Tobago. However, what is erroneously but commonly regarded as Yorubaland by unknowledgeable people is the geographical entity housing the Yoruba people within Nigeria alone. Some are even so parochial enough that they regard only the six south west states of Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Osun, Ondo and Ekiti as Yorubaland whereas Yorubaland within Nigeria alone extends to 10 states namely; Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Osun, Ondo, Ekiti, Kwara, Kogi, Edo and Delta.

Now, since the subject matter on ground is Yorubaland within Nigeria, our concern should encompass the whole of the 10 states comprising 196 Local Government Areas where our people are located.

  1. The crux
Today Yorubaland is in distress. The land is mourning. The giant has crumbled from the Olympian height to the depth of Erebus. The land of the firsts has been reduced to the bottom rung of the human development ladder, literally to nadir. The land of kings has descended to that of slaves. What a calamity befallen the once-upon-a-time proud children of Oduduwa! The house the enigmatic, angelic Obafemi Awolowo built designed to rank among top 10 countries in the world is now on a supersonic descent to the jungle of pygmies and Lilliputians. Hmmm. Yorubaland is now in a state of ailment, wailing and mourning. Mourning their innocent children being beheaded, slaughtered, butchered and tortured in the forests for no offence committed, by the offspring of the wastrels, outcast, the transgressors, the usurpers, the fiefs, the murderers, the agents of Lucifer, the vagabonds, the cannibals, the fiendish spirits, the inhuman, bestial elements, the carnivores, infernal elements, the vultures feasting on the carions of ‘omo alade’. What a descent from the mountain of glorification to the valley of degradation!

We guess the lachrymal gland of Obafemi Awolowo must have burst into ruptures in his celestial abode looking down the abysmal degeneration of his construction and supersonic flight projection for his people. Oh! Today the children of Oduduwa including infants are in the forests undergoing insufferable, unwarranted tortures and brutal killings linked to the two-century old calculation and grim determination of the offspring of Uthman Dan Fodio, the Fuehrer of the itinerant Fulani stock from Futa Jalon who made their way to the geographical space of Hausaland of today’s Nigeria in 1804. On getting to the Hausaland, their trait of transgression, harassment and drive for conquest was unleashed on the Hausa people until they conquered them and dominated their entire geographical space. Inspired by the conquest and domination of the Hausa people, the Fulanis headed towards Yorubaland and conquered Ilorin our part of Yorubaland in 1824. The euphoria of this conquest spurred them into the dream of overrunning the entire Yorubaland in their speedy incursion until the Ibadan warlords halted and dealt severe blows on them at the Osogbo war front in 1840 causing them to scamper like waifs and strays and crushing them to nothing. All accolades to our Ibadan warlords. Yoruba’s gratitude to them should be eternal. But for them what we would have had today are the Emir of Ife, Emir of Ibadan, Emir of Ilesa, Emir of Abeokuta, Emir of Kabba, Emir of Akure, Emir of Ado-Ekiti, Emir of Lagos, Emir of Benin, Emir of Warri, Emir of Osogbo, Emir of Ogbomoso, Emir of Oyo etc.

But very sad indeed and to the shame of the Yoruba obas and leaders, the Ilorin Emirate still subsists till today where the Fulanis are still officially lording over our land. Is it not high time we invoked and exhumed the Ibadan spirit to come to the rescue again?

Now, from all arrogant vituperations, brazen scheming and audacious spin with all impunity by the Fulani leaders from the generation of Ahmadu Bello up to Muhammadu Buhari, their determination is to resurge and capture the entire Yorubaland until, according to them, they dip their Koran in the Atlantic Ocean in Lagos. Mission accomplished. And quite good to their words, are they not at the verge of completing the mission now while our politicians, obas and leaders look on helplessly like mammals stung into somnambulism? What script do we think the terrorists and bandits are playing out? Systematic and steady conquest of Yorubaland of course. From Kogi to Kwara, from Kwara to Ekiti, from Ekiti to Ondo, from Ondo to Edo, from Edo to Oyo and from Oyo to Ogun, all our forests have been patiently occupied only remaining Lagos State. By the time Lagos is captured, their mission is accomplished and Yorubas are doomed forever. The once most intelligent people among the entire black race that the Anthropologists of yore have rated Yorubas to be have now been moored to the harbour of slavery.

With the power of the immense cabins of liquid cash at their disposals coupled with the mountainous arms and ammunition acquired with the proceeds from the ransoms collected, it is just a matter of calling the shots for the forcible invasion of our cities and towns and spin for the proclamation of the take-over of the land? Sadly enough the stark reality on ground is that this is Yorubaland which hitherto has no organized resistance structure anywhere in the world more so with our political class caring no hoot about the land other than their selfish interests. And come to think of it, while our children are undergoing butchering and severe tribulations in the den of the beasts, our political class gallivant and junket round the space jostling for electoral manoeuvres with no slightest feeling of empathy and human compassion for the subjects whom they pretend to serve. Gosh!

  1. What way out?
What oxymoron would it be to discover that the looming ravaged people by the savage are reputed to be the most intelligent, most educated and wealthiest black people on earth? Now, what defence would these giant people give to the outside world as an excuse for their decapitation by, and capitulation to the dwarfs? Would it be that their elements had evaporated from their faculties or they did not have the resources to do the battle?

Here is what we consider as our bane: the lack of central command or coordinating leadership structure in the land. The truth of the matter is that however wise and intelligent a people could be, the absence of coordination would always leave them naked and astray. This is the diagnosis. Since the master-coordinator Obafemi Awolowo and his great successor Adekunle Ajasin had left this divide, the descent of the giant has been speedy on the graph. Yes, lack of central command, lack of coordinating leadership structure, lack of credible leadership.

At this juncture, as the postulation goes that leadership is always thrown up at the point of crisis, so we most humbly declare and present to the world today that the leadership of this organization, Council of Yoruba Elders, with its past unique pedigree in the annals of Yoruba emancipation agenda spanning over a period of three decades now has placed it as the most credible leadership in the land today with all tested and trusted endowments laced with constance, consistency, unblurred vision and spirit of indefatigability.

It is therefore on this license that we hereby declare this moment in our racial life as a moment of emergency where all our people of means, brains and brawns must rise in unison to save the land.

We also proudly declare that this organization has all the unimaginable strategies and stratagems in the world to checkmate the advance of our tormentors and marauders and push them back in a fleeting moment. But all we lack are the financial and material resources.

Given that our politicians are unrepentantly busy doing their business as usual, we hereby most humbly, respectfully and dutifully call our people endowed with God’s blessings to answer our clarion call to patriotism and salvation just before we are collectively doomed.

We are therefore reeling out the names of those we could muster as the rich in the land as a direct challenge to them for the rescue mission by soliciting that they bless our vault.

We hereby call on:
