Today, 11 October, the world celebrates the International Day of the Girl Child under the theme: “End Child Marriage and Invest in Girls’ Rights!”
As we reflect on the future of our communities, we must ask ourselves an important question:What kind of future are we building for the girl child in Oke-Ogun?
A future where poverty prevents her from attending school?
A future where her dreams are sacrificed because of circumstances beyond her control?
Or a future where she can receive an education, access healthcare, acquire digital skills, develop her talents and contribute meaningfully to society?
I believe every girl deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, lead and fulfil her potential.
Our commitment to human capital development must include the girl child. We must support access to quality education, advocate for the protection of children, promote skills acquisition and create opportunities for girls from disadvantaged backgrounds.
As a prospective representative of Iseyin, Itesiwaju, Iwajowa and Kajola Federal Constituency, I believe that the development of our people must begin with investments in their potential.
Let us work together to build communities where girls are protected, their voices are heard, their education is valued and their aspirations are respected.
A girl who receives an opportunity today can become the teacher, scientist, entrepreneur, doctor, engineer or leader who transforms our society tomorrow.
Our commitment must go beyond words. It must find expression in policies, partnerships and sustained action.
On this International Day of the Girl Child, let us renew our commitment to a future where no girl is denied an opportunity to fulfil her potential because she was born a girl.
