The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Oyo State, Senator (Dr) Sharafadeen Alli, has said his ambition was driven by the determination to build a stronger, prosperous and rewarding state where government works for the people.
Alli, who represents Oyo South Senatorial District, said his ambition was guided by a clear objective of building a stronger, more prosperous and effectively governed state with tangible benefits to its citizens.
“The people are not asking for political theatre. They are asking for security, jobs, functioning schools, accessible healthcare, good roads and an economy that gives them a fair chance,” he said.
He said residents deserved a contest based on ideas, policies and measurable solutions to the challenges confronting the state, rather than one centred on character assassination, blackmail or personal attacks.
“Oyo cannot afford another season of political noise without development. The state’s future must be shaped by competence, accountability and a clear commitment to public service,” he said.
Alli criticised political opponents for resorting to innuendo, character assassination and blackmail in an attempt to divert attention from issues that directly affect the people.
He challenged those genuinely committed to Oyo’s progress to abandon personal attacks and present superior ideas, credible programmes and workable policies.
The APC candidate urged residents to focus on the issues that would shape the state’s future rather than be distracted by unproductive political exchanges.
Alli pledged full local government autonomy, which would enable councils to respond more effectively to the needs of their communities and accelerate grassroots development.
He described effective local administration as essential to sustainable progress, arguing that government must be brought closer to the people through strong institutions, transparent leadership and prudent resource management.
Alli said a better Oyo State must provide quality and affordable education, accessible healthcare, expanded agricultural opportunities, good road networks as well as improved social amenities.
The APC candidate pledged to ensure prompt payment of workers’ salaries, gratuties and pension, while prioritising their welfare for optimum productivity.
He pledged that his administration would prioritise economic empowerment, security, job creation and accelerated development in all sectors.
Alli promised people-oriented and responsive governance, adding that his administration would be assessed by results rather than slogans.
“Our administration will create investment-friendly environment capable of attracting businesses, expanding employment opportunities and establishing sustainable economic pathways for farmers, entrepreneurs, professionals and other productive citizens,” he said.
The APC candidate also promised a compassionate, accessible and responsive government that would protect citizens’ rights, while enabling residents to pursue legitimate aspirations without fear, intimidation or arbitrary interference.
He pledged decisive action against land grabbing and other practices threatening legitimate investments, property ownership as well as peaceful coexistence.
Alli promised to bequeath an Oyo State, operating strictly under the rule of law, with no room for impunity or selective justice.
The APC candidate said that his public service experience, legislative responsibilities and years of grassroots engagement had prepared him to govern the state effectively.
He described himself as a tested and competent politician with a deep understanding of the aspirations and frustrations of Oyo residents.
Alli said that his political philosophy was rooted in service, development and practical governance rather than propaganda.
He said that his longstanding engagement with communities across the state had given him first-hand knowledge of the challenges facing residents and the urgency required to address them.
Alli said he remained focused on presenting a credible alternative capable of transforming Oyo into a state where government works for the people, protects legitimate interests and creates opportunities for all.
He added that his ambition was to leave behind a stronger, more prosperous and rewarding Oyo State for present and future generations.
