Return Schools to original owners for wholistic education, Archbishop Abegunrin tells government

The Catholic Archbishop of Ibadan, Most Rev. Dr. Gabriel Leke Abegunrin has called for the return of schools back to the original owners, saying there is no gainsaying  the fact that the  Church can do much with less.

Dr. Abegunrin made that call at a press conference held at Fr. Travers hall, Bashorun area in Ibadan while speaking on the state of the nation.

According to him, the time has come for these schools to be returned to their original owners, saying the Catholics believe in wholistic education, hence the establishment of  many schools in the past that shaped the lives of many national and state leaders in the 70s, 80s and 90s.

“We once again reiterate the position of the Catholic Church on the value of quality education, because Catholic believes in wholistic and quality education, hence, the call for schools to be returned to their original owners.

“With her track records of academic excellence and wholistic education and formation of young people, the state stands to gain if and when they  are returned to their origami owners “

Speaking on security, economy and social welfare of Nigerians, the clergy called on government to as a matter of urgency put up measures that will address and cushion the hardship facing the people, adding adequate security measures too be put on ground to secure the citizens 

“We often hear of palliatives  being distributed but never see them, we hope that social welfare package should be extended to all citizens of the state, and we would also like to see funds allocated for the good of the people to be used for the purpose and not the endless accusations and counter accusations that our political leaders continue to engaged in, in the hallowed chamber.”

Dr Abegunrin who noted that the economic hardship in the country has led to deviant behavior in which many communities have resorted to policing their community especially at night  called on government to urgently address the problems before it further degenerates.

The Archbishop who commended the  government of the state for the construction and repair of many roads in the state, lauded the spirit of governor Seyi Makinde’s leadership, saying the  development will make movement easy for the people. 

He also called on government at all levels to put in place machinery that will provide opportunities for the youths and young adults to be gainfully employed.
