Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in Oyo State have honoured Governor Seyi Makinde for his administration’s commitment to inclusion, empowerment and improved opportunities for PWDs.
The honour was done at Stakeholders’ Consultative and Engagement Meeting on 2027 Budget of Oyo State.
According to statement by Timothy Olufemi Sunday, awards were presented to Governor Makinde by Barr. Ayodele Adekanmbi, Director-General, Oyo State Agency for Persons with Disabilities, and Comrade Akanni Mutiu, Oyo State JONAPWD Secretary, on behalf of various PWD groups.
The groups include National Association of the Deaf, Oyo State Chapter; Special Assistants representing 33 Local Government Chairmen; and National Association of the Blind.
The recognitions, according to PWDs, reflect appreciation of disability community for initiatives that have created opportunities for persons with disabilities to participate more actively in governance, employment, politics and economic empowerment.
“For many persons with disabilities, access to opportunities is not merely a privilege; it is a pathway to dignity, independence, and meaningful participation in society,” statement said.
The PWD community called for continued strengthening of inclusive policies that ensure no citizen is left behind.
“As Nigeria approaches another electoral season in 2027, conversations about leadership, inclusion, and national development will remain important to future of our country. Aspirations of persons with disabilities must be part of that conversation, with particular attention to accessibility, equal opportunities, and representation in public life,” statement added.
“Our message is clear: Inlusion Is Not a Favour , It Is a Right. We appreciate Governor Seyi Makinde for attention given to concerns of persons with disabilities in Oyo State and encourage sustained commitment to policies that improve their lives.”
