The Arole Ogunelu and Mogaji Aare Alasa Dynasty in Ibadanland, Prof. Sabit Ariyo Olagoke, JP, on Tuesday visited Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Eddy Oyewole, at his Molete residence to seek integration of Aare Alasa Dynasty into Jagun line of Olubadan Chieftaincy.
Prof. Olagoke, who is also Founder and Spiritual Head of Shafaudeen-in-Islam Worldwide, said his visit was part of ongoing consultations with leadership of Olubadan-in-Council for formal recognition of the dynasty.
He was accompanied to Molete residence of the Oba by members of Shafaudeen organization and were received by Chief Kayode Adewuyi, who later ushered Prof.Olagoke into a closed-door meeting with Oba Eddy Oyewole
According to him, Aare Alasa Dynasty has a rich history in Ibadanland having been established since 1800 and now in its fourth generation, but has over the years been omitted from succession line.
He appealed that Ogunelu Aare Alasa Dynasty be integrated into Jagun line to take its rightful place among ruling houses in Ibadanland.
Prof. Olagoke, who disclosed that he will be 70 years old soon, said his request is not for personal aggrandizement but for benefit of upcoming generations of the lineage.
“At 70, I am not doing this for personal interest. I am doing it for upcoming generations in the lineage so that they can have a place and take their rightful position in Ibadanland,” he said.
“I am appealing to Olubadan institution through Kabiyesi to look into how Ogunelu Aare Alasa dynasty can be integrated into Jagun line of Olubadan chieftaincy. We have paid our dues in the history and development of Ibadanland and we believe it is time for historical justice,” he added.
Prof. Olagoke presented some of his books to the monarch, including “My Roots”, “Companionship In The Voyage of Life”, “Ileoye Museum” — the necessity to preserve our cultural heritage, and “The Bloodline”, which traces his ancestral lines from Saki to Ibadan, describing them as products of his curiosity, research and experience to preserve cultural heritage and restore sanity in society.
Responding, Oba Eddy Oyewole, Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland, commended Prof. Olagoke for towing path of peace and due process in pursuing the cause, describing him as a respected scholar and religious leader.
Oba Oyewole said Ibadan chieftaincy system is built on history, justice and due process, and assured that his request would be conveyed to the Olubadan, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja and the Olubadan-in- Council for due consideration
