The Oyo State Police Command has clarified a viral video involving officers of the Kwara State Police Command who were reportedly in Ibadan to arrest one Mr. Tani Olohun, saying the officers were acting on a warrant of arrest issued by an Upper Ilorin Magistrates’ Court.
The clarification was contained in a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, Oyo State Command, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, on Tuesday, August 25, 2026.
According to the statement, the Kwara State police officers had travelled to Ibadan in connection with the arrest of Tani Olohun over allegations bordering on conduct likely to cause a breach of public peace.
The Oyo Command explained that the arrest attempt was based on a warrant reportedly issued by the Upper Ilorin Magistrates’ Court, Ilorin, following the alleged failure of the suspect to comply with conditions attached to an earlier bail granted to him.
The court was said to have consequently ordered his arrest.
However, upon receiving the report, the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, directed the visiting officers to return to their base and advised the complainant to approach the appropriate court in Ibadan, being the alleged location where the offence was committed.
The Oyo Police Command said the directive was in line with due process and the principles of territorial jurisdiction.
The Command, while reacting to the circulating video, urged members of the public to remain calm and law-abiding, warning against actions capable of disturbing public peace or escalating the situation.
It reiterated its commitment to upholding the rule of law, protecting lives and property, and ensuring that complaints are handled professionally and in accordance with extant laws.
The Police Command also urged members of the public to use the appropriate emergency channels when necessary.
