Pensioners in Oyo State have commended the Executive Governor of Oyo State, His Excellency, Engr Oluseyi Abiodun Makinde led government for implementing various impactful welfare policies and programmes for pensioners.
The commendation was given to the Governor by the Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP) Executives during the payment of gratuity to another batch of retired Primary School Teachers , Local Government retirees and death benefits to next of kins of deceased pensioners.
The gratuity payment exercise was held across the geo- political zones of the state which had in attendance teeming beneficiaries made up of eligible retired primary school teachers and retired local government staff in the state.
Speaking at Ibadan South East Local Government Secretariat, Mapo where Ibadan Zone 1 disbursement exercise took place, the State NUP Chairman , retired Primary School Teachers wing, Com Dosu Akinpelu represented by the Secretary, Com Tunji Ogunwale and the State Chairman retired Local Government Staff wing , Alhaji Muniru Adesope represented by the Secretary , Com Ricketts Olasupo eulogized Governor Seyi Makinde led administration for always considering pensioners in the scheme of things through provision of meaning welfare packages since his assumption of office in May 2019 till date.
They enumerated some of the welfare packages being enjoyed by pensioners which include payment of monthly pension on the 25th of every month, payment of #50, 000 Christmas bonus, payment of #10, 000 transport support fund, enrollment of Pensioners into the state health insurance scheme at zero cost, free medical outreach for pensioners organized by the wife of the governor Mrs Tamunominini Makinde and many more.
While delivering his keynote address, Hon Akeem Ademola Ige said present administration in the state under the leadership of Engr. Oluseyi Abiodun Makinde is determined to sustain the harmonious relationship between the government and the Nigeria Union of Pensioners through implementation of good welfare policies and programmes.
Hon Ige said the welfare packages being enjoyed by Oyo State Pensioners are incomparable to other states of the federation being the Pacesetter state. He emphasized that the governor has been consistent in putting smiles on the faces of senior citizens. He also explained that the governor approved Three Billion Naira for the gratuity payment exercise to another batch of retirees.
He then solicited for continued support and cooperation of workers , pensioners and the people of Oyo State in general to Makinde led government as he strives to take the state to an enviable height.
In his welcome address, the Executive Chairman, Ibadan South East Local Government, Hon Emmanuel Oluwole Alawode said payment of gratuity to pensioners is a demonstration of appreciation of their dedication, sacrifice and commitment to public service. He added that pensioners numerous contributions to the growth and development of the state while in active service cannot be quantified. He also gave kudos to Governor Seyi Makinde for his unwavering commitment to pensioners welfare in the Pacesetter state.
In his goodwill message, the Permanent Secretary, Ibadan Zone 1, Barrister Jubril Alaga applauded Engr. Seyi Makinde’s administration for leaving no stone unturned to ensure pensioners live a healthy and meaningful life.
The highlight of the progranme was symbolic presentation of cheques to beneficiaries.
While responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mr Oyeleke Ezekiel Oyewole, Mrs Tolawo A.M.O, and Mrs Bilikisu Bello appreciated Governor Seyi Makinde for the kind gesture.
Dignitaries present at the occasion include the Head of Local Government Administration, Ibadan South East Local Government, Dr ( Mrs) Agnes Olakunbi Ojo, Acting Head of Local Government Administration, LGSPB, Alhaji Musibau Ladele , LGSPB and IBSELG Heads of Departments, State and branch Executives of Nigerian Union of Pensioners and a host of others.
