Makinde To Deploy 50 Electric Buses To Cut Transport Costs, Reaffirms Fiscal Discipline,Targets 77.5% Expenditure in 2026 Budget

Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, has announced plans to deploy 50 electric buses across the state to reduce transportation costs and improve mobility for residents.

The Governor disclosed this on Tuesday in Ibadan during the presentation of the First and Second Quarter Budget Performance Reports on revenue and expenditure, organized by the Oyo State Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning

Governor Makinde, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Musibau Babatunde said the 50 electric buses will be distributed to serve intra-city routes and ease inter-local government transport across Oyo State.

“This initiative is aimed at bringing down the cost of transportation and making movement easier and cheaper for our people,” Makinde said.

He added that the buses are part of broader efforts to deliver people-oriented projects with direct impact on citizens.

The Governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to fiscal sustainability and citizen-driven development.

He noted that his government is tracking both revenue and expenditure to ensure sectors in need of more support receive additional resources before the end of the fiscal year.

“The 2026 budget framework is built around meeting revenue targets while managing a 77.5 percent expenditure plan. We are now prioritizing projects with high multiplier effects on the economy,” he stated.

Makinde added that projects nominated by citizens during town hall and stakeholder meetings across the state are already being executed.

The Governor urged residents to continue cooperating with government to enable improved service delivery adding that a high-level committee is already working to address pressing issues raised during the budget performance presentation.
