The Chairman of the Oyo State Local Government Staff Pension Board , Hon Akeem Ademola Ige has reaffirmed the commitment of the present administration in Oyo State led by His Excellency, Engr Oluseyi Abiodun Makinde to the welfare of pemsioners in the state.
The Chairman disclosed this during the stakeholders meeting held with the Executives of the Nigerian Union of Pensioners today at the Local Government House, Secretariat, Ibadan.
Hon Akeem Ademola Ige while addressing Retired Primary School Teachers and Local Government Staff Executives, assured pensioners that Governor Seyi Makinde led government will leave no stone unturned through various pensioners friendly policies and programmes put in place to make life more meaningful and bearable for the esteemed senior citizens in the state.
While lauding the State Chairmen and Secretaries of NUP both Teachers and Local Government Staff wings for being good ambassadors of pensioners , he appreciated the Nigeria Union of Pensioners for their unflinching support and cooperation to the present administration in the state and .advised them to shun misinformation that could jeopardize the existing smooth relationship between them and the government.
He advocated for regular meetings between the management of Local Government Staff Pension Board and NUP in order to foster continued peace and harmony. He further explained that the Board is currently on payment of gratuity to 2017 (retired primary school teachers), May 2023 ( LG retirees) and also May 2019 – May 2020 categories.
In his speech, the Permanent Secretary of the Board, TPL Olufemi Akinwale said necessary steps would be taken to ensure all issues raised at the meeting are adequately addressed. He reiterated that the Biard will continue to give special consideration to pensioners with health challenges with genuine medical documents/ records . He further stated that the Board will continue to decentralize payment of gratuity and promised that there will be improvement where necessary to make payment exercise stress free for the beneficiaries.
Other issues bothering on monthly pension, pension arrears , quick processing of retirement benefits of deceased pensioners by Next of Kins , I Am Alive Screening Exercise, signing of guarantor forms by NUP Executives, channel of communication between the Board and NUP for improved harmonious relationship were also discussed.
Also speaking at the meeting, the State Chairmen and Secretaries of both retired primary school teachers and local government staff , Com Dosu Akinpelu, Alhaji Muniru Adesope, Com Ricketts Olasupo , Com Tunji Ogunwale and zonal NUP Executives lauded Gov Seyi Makinde led administration for prioritizing the welfare of pemsioners most especially regular payments of monthly pensions, gratuity and other retirement benefits to senior citizens. However, they presented some issues that required urgent attention of the management of the Board which were addressed immediately at the meeting.
In attendance at the stakeholders meeting include the Acting Head of Local Government Administration , Alhaji Musibau Ladele, Heads of Departments and NUP zonal Executives.
