The Sabiganna of Iganna Kingdom in Iwajowa Local Government Area of Oyo State, His Royal Majesty, Oba Diamond Soliu Oyemonla Azeez, has called on Nigerians to uphold unity, tolerance, justice and peaceful coexistence as the country marks its 66th Independence Anniversary.
The traditional ruler also urged leaders at all levels of government to prioritise the welfare and security of citizens, promote fairness and justice in governance, and create an enabling environment for economic growth, employment generation and sustainable development.
Oba Oyemonla made the call in his Independence Anniversary message made available to Oodua News on Thursday, as Nigerians commemorate 66 years of the country’s independence.
He said the anniversary was not merely an occasion to celebrate Nigeria’s attainment of political independence, but also an opportunity to reflect on the sacrifices, courage and patriotic contributions of the men and women who worked for the country’s independence.
According to him, the legacy of Nigeria’s founding patriots places a responsibility on every generation to contribute meaningfully to the peace, stability and development of the nation.
The monarch urged Nigerians to remain committed to the ideals of national unity and peaceful coexistence, stressing that the country’s diversity should be regarded as a source of strength rather than division.
He called on citizens to continue to promote peaceful coexistence and work collectively towards building a nation where every citizen can live with dignity, hope and confidence in the future.
“At this important moment in our national journey, let us renew our faith in Nigeria, support peaceful coexistence and work together towards a nation where every citizen can live with dignity, hope and confidence in the future,” he said.
Oba Oyemonla also prayed for continued divine guidance and protection for Nigeria, its leaders and citizens, as well as lasting peace, unity, prosperity and sustainable development across the country.
The traditional ruler congratulated Nigerians at home and in the diaspora on the occasion of the nation’s 66th Independence Anniversary, urging them to remain hopeful and committed to the collective progress of the country.
