Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, has assured residents that he will not interfere in the governance of his successor , Bimbo Adekanbi when elected as governor of the state in 2027, stressing that he does not want to be seen as an obstacle to new leadership.
Governor Makinde gave the assurance on Monday while hosting the Muslim community at a Hijrah 1448 Luncheon held at the Banquet Hall, Government House, Agodi, Ibadan.
The Governor said leadership must be about service and not control. He urged citizens, especially members of the Muslim community, to demand accountability, clear plans, commitments, and programmes that will promote development, peace, and prosperity from those seeking political offices.
He also challenged political opponents to present to the people of Oyo State what they intend to do if elected, rather than resort to discrediting the achievements of his administration.
Reiterating his commitment, Governor Makinde said his administration will continue to prioritize decisions that benefit the state until the end of his tenure.He appreciated the people of Oyo State for their support and cooperation over the years.
In his lecture, the Guest Speaker, Sheikh Ismail Gbamọlada, spoke on the importance of good leadership. He emphasized the need for leaders to govern with integrity, accountability, justice, and with the interest of the people at heart.
Earlier in his opening remarks, the Chairman of the occasion, Chief Saka Balogun, called for continuous prayers for the state and the country. He urged Muslims and other residents to remain committed to peace, unity, and peaceful coexistence.
The event was attended by top government officials, Islamic clerics, and community leaders.
