The Founder and CEO of the Harrison Niyi Alonge Care Foundation (HNACF), Harrison Olaniyi Alonge (HOA), has been honoured with an Award of Excellence by the International Institute of Journalism (IIJ), Ekiti State, in recognition of his humanitarian efforts, philanthropy and contributions to community development.
HOA was represented at the event by his Special Assistant on Media, Comrade Olawale Ogunyebi.
The ceremony, which marked the end of the academic session at the IIJ, Ekiti State, was organised by the Students’ Representative Council (SRC) in collaboration with the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ekiti State Council.
The event brought together prominent personalities, journalists, academics, lecturers, students and other stakeholders in the media and education sectors.
Among the distinguished personalities honoured at the ceremony was the Special Adviser to the Governor of Ekiti State and Director-General of OTDS, Dr. John Moyo Ekundayo, who represented the Governor.
Also honoured was Distinguished Senator Biodun Olujimi, in recognition of her contributions to the media space and public service.
Senator Olujimi further demonstrated her support for the development of journalism education by donating ₦1 million towards the ongoing projects at the permanent site of the IIJ in Ekiti State.
Another award recipient was Chief Wale Ojo-Lanre, who was recognised for his selfless service and contributions to the promotion of culture and journalism in Ekiti State.
Speaking at the event, Senator Olujimi highlighted the personality and contributions of Harrison Olaniyi Alonge, describing him as a complete gentleman who has continued to support the government, the people and economic development initiatives in Ekiti State and beyond.
Receiving the award on behalf of his Principal and Mentor, Comrade Olawale Ogunyebi expressed appreciation to the organisers for the recognition and for celebrating HOA’s contributions to humanity and community development.
Ogunyebi noted that Harrison Alonge has consistently supported initiatives focused on community development, youth empowerment and women empowerment, describing him as a philanthropist, humanitarian and passionate leader committed to making a positive difference in society.
He assured the gathering that HOA would continue to support credible initiatives that promote journalism, education, community development and the wellbeing of citizens.
In further support of journalism education and the students, Harrison Olaniyi Alonge donated ₦200,000 to the IIJ Students’ Representative Council, while his Media Aide, Comrade Olawale Ogunyebi, also supported the students with ₦20,000.
The Chairman of the NUJ, Ekiti State Council, Mr. Kayode Babatuyi, was also in attendance and joined other stakeholders in celebrating the students and award recipients.
The Vice Chancellor of the institution also gave an insightful account of the historical background and development of the International Institute of Journalism, highlighting the institution’s role in training and developing professionals in journalism and mass communication.
The leadership of the SRC, led by Comrade Fatunla and his Vice President, Oluwakemisola Folarin, was also recognised for academic excellence and selfless service to the student community.
The ceremony featured the presentation of certificates and awards to outstanding students and teachers, while entertainment was provided for guests, lecturers and students, adding colour and excitement to the memorable occasion.
The recognition of Harrison Olaniyi Alonge further highlights his contributions to humanitarian service, education, journalism and community development, as he continues to support initiatives aimed at improving the wellbeing and prospects of citizens.
