A former Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Moses Alake Adeyemo, has been unanimously elected as the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State.
His emergence as consensus chairman was ratified at the party’s State Congress held on Tuesday at the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium, Oke Ado, Ibadan, following the adoption of recommendations put forward by the party’s Ad Hoc Zoning Committee.
The congress was attended by prominent party leaders and stakeholders, including former Senate Leader, Teslim Folarin; wife of the late former governor of Oyo State, Florence Ajimobi; Senator Ayo Adeseun; and Alhaji Fatai Ibikunle, among others.
Prior to the congress, the party had constituted an Ad Hoc Committee to oversee the zoning of elective offices within the state chapter. The committee’s recommendations were endorsed at a stakeholders’ meeting held at the party secretariat on Monday, paving the way for Adeyemo’s adoption as consensus candidate.
Adeyemo, who hailed from the Oke-Ogun axis of the state and served as deputy governor under the late Abiola Ajimobi, formally assumed office at the ceremony, pledging to prioritise unity, inclusiveness and grassroots mobilisation.
Addressing party members shortly after his inauguration, he said: “I stand before you today humbled and deeply honoured as I accept the responsibility of serving as Chairman of the All Progressives Congress in Oyo State.”
“This is a moment of great significance, not only for me personally but for every member of our great party across the length and breadth of this state.”
He continued: “I pledge to serve with utmost diligence, integrity and commitment. Our strength lies in our cohesion, and we must never lose sight of the fact that we are stronger together.”
The new chairman expressed appreciation to the party’s national leadership for what he described as its steadfast commitment to internal democracy and unity.
“Their unwavering dedication to the growth of our party has provided the framework within which we have successfully conducted our congresses at every level,” he noted, adding that he was grateful for the “patience, counsel and encouragement” extended throughout the process.
Adeyemo also commended the Ad Hoc Zoning Committee, chaired by Alhaji Fatai Ibikunle with Mr Afeez Bolaji Repete as secretary, for ensuring equitable representation across the 33 local government areas of the state.
“Your collective wisdom has ensured that every local government chapter has a voice in shaping our State Executive Committee,” he said.
Looking ahead to the 2027 general elections, Adeyemo pledged to build a transparent, accountable and inclusive executive, while strengthening party structures at the grassroots.
“Together, we will nurture our grassroots, reposition our party for resounding victories, and meet the expectations of our members and the people we serve,” he said.
