“Don’t Kill The Giant In Your Child” — UACC General Overseer Urges Mothers at 2026 Women’s Conference
The President and General Overseer of the United Apostolic Church of Christ, UACC, Rev. Dr. James Bayo Owoyemi, has charged mothers not to abuse or belittle their children, warning that “whenever you abuse your children, you may be killing the giants in them.”
Rev. Dr. Owoyemi gave the charge during the church’s 2026 Women’s Conference held from August 27 to 30, 2026, at the International Prayer Centre, Ologunerun, Ibadan, Oyo State.The conference was themed “Mother of Generations.”
Speaking at the programme, the cleric urged women to put into practical use the lectures and teachings received during the conference, particularly in the area of child upbringing and family building.
To drive home his message, Rev. Dr. Owoyemi shared the story of a boy whose school sent a letter home describing him as “unteachable” and saying no teacher could teach him.
According to him, the boy’s mother read the letter differently and told her son: “My son, the letter says you are the most brilliant person in the school and that there is no teacher who has knowledge like you. Therefore, from today, I will be your teacher.”
He noted that the boy later grew up to become one of the greatest inventors in the world.
“Your words as a mother can either build or destroy. Look beyond your child’s present circumstance and focus on what they can become,” he said.
The UACC leader further admonished mothers not to compare their children with others, but to nurture them with love, patience and understanding, stressing that every child has unique potential that must be carefully developed.
Quoting Proverbs 17:17, he also emphasized the importance of love and support within the family, adding that a mother’s role is critical to raising generations that will impact society positively.
Rev. Dr. Owoyemi concluded the conference with prayers for the women, asking God to grant them “Apostolic grace” and enable them to enjoy the fruits of their labour.
The 4-day conference brought together women leaders and members of UACC from across the country for teachings, prayers, and empowerment sessions aimed at strengthening women in their God-given roles as mothers and builders of nations.
