A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former aspirant for Saki West, Saki East and ATISBO Federal Constituency, Hon. Ismail Adewoyin PhD, has warned that the party risks a rough ride in Oyo North Senatorial District in the 2027 general elections if lingering grievances from the party primaries are not urgently resolved.
Adewoyin, who alleged that his victory at the APC primary for the federal constituency was unjustly taken away from him, said he has remained loyal as a committed party man despite being aggrieved.
In a statement on Wednesday, the APC chieftain said he has made several observations that could spell doom for the party in the coming elections, particularly in Oyo North and Saki constituency, if urgent steps are not taken.
“Sadly, none of these observations have been looked into,” he lamented.
He disclosed that as an aggrieved aspirant, he has not been officially informed of the outcome of the reconciliation meeting he had with the party’s committee in the state.
According to him, in his private meeting with a leader of the party, Senator Ayo Adeseun, the senator agreed with him on all his observations about the party’s weaknesses in Oyo North Senatorial District, but till date, everyone is carrying on as if all is well.
“These concerns border on historical facts, antecedents and past activities of some of our candidates for the forthcoming elections which, if not properly managed, could hinder the progress and electoral fortunes of our party,” Adewoyin stated.
He noted that in the entire Oyo North Senatorial District, Saki remains the largest in terms of population and the highest in number of registered voters, adding that it is imperative for the APC leadership to, as a matter of urgency, reach out to aggrieved aspirants from the primaries.
“Our grievances, observations, opinions and suggestions will be of immense benefit to the party, rather than pretending that everything is going well,” he said.
Adewoyin added that Distinguished Senator AbdulFatai Buhari has met with Mr. President and raised concerns about the challenges in the Senatorial District, but insisted the problems are far more than what was presented to the President.
“Our Distinguished Senator AbdulFatai Buhari has met with Mr. President and has raised concerns about the challenges in the Senatorial District. I make bold to say that the problems are far more than what he presented to Mr. President,” he said.
The former aspirant, who described himself as a core progressive, loyal party man and grassroots mobilizer across the 10 Local Government Areas of Oke-Ogun in the last nine years, said his opinion should matter to the party if it truly desires overwhelming victory in the January 2027 elections.
“I believe my opinion should matter to the party if we truly desire an overwhelming victory for the APC in the January 2027 elections,” Adewoyin concluded.
