The ancient town of Ikere-Ekiti stood still on Friday, September 25, 2026, as the remains of distinguished legal luminary, former Senator and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, Senator Anthony Ademuyiwa Adeniyi, SAN, were laid to rest in his country home.
In a statement released by the Special Assistant on Media to Harrison Olaniyi Alonge (HOA) and made available to the press in Ado-Ekiti, the solemn burial ceremony, which began with a Requiem Mass at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Oke-Ikere, Ikere-Ekiti, attracted a mammoth crowd of mourners including top government officials, legal practitioners, traditional rulers, political associates and family members.
The Requiem Mass was presided over by Most Rev. Felix Ajakaiye, assisted by the Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Kingsley Anyanwu and other concelebrating priests. In his homily, Bishop Ajakaiye described the late Senator as a devout Christian, a man of impeccable integrity and a refined political juggernaut who used law as an instrument of justice and humanity.
The revered cleric specifically noted that, government at all levels to stop allocations of funds for pilgrimage and building of palaces in Nigeria, rather, put the money together and resuscitate moribond industries to alleviate poverty in the society.
The Executive Governor of Ekiti State, His Excellency Mr. Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, BAO, led the state delegation to the burial. He was joined by his Deputy, Chief (Mrs) Monisade Afuye, the representative of the Governor of Ondo State, Hon. Olabintan, and former Governor of Ekiti State, Engr. Segun Oni.
Also in attendance were serving and former Senators including Senator Biodun Olujimi, Senator Dayo Adeyeye, Senator Yemi Adaramodu and Senator Babafemi Ojudu,Hon Bimbo Daramola, Hon Oyetunji Ojo, representative of Harrison Olaniyi Alonge (HOA) along side members of the State Executive Council, members of the House of Assembly, APC state and local government executives, leadership of the Nigerian Bar Association, and other dignitaries across party lines.
In his tribute, Governor Oyebanji described the late Senator Adeniyi as a legal icon, a frontline APC leader and a proud son of Ekiti whose contributions to the legal profession and democratic governance in Nigeria will never be forgotten.
Until his death, Senator Anthony Adeniyi, SAN, was a highly respected Senior Advocate of Nigeria, a former Senator of the Federal Republic, a founding leader of the APC in Ekiti State and a pillar of the Ikere-Ekiti community.
In her tribute, former Senate Minority Leader, Sen. Biodun Olujimi, described late Adeniyi SAN, as a thorough-bred Ekiti man, lawyer who rose to the peak of his career, a humble statesman and a bridge-builder whose contributions to law and democratic stability will continue to speak for him.
She commiserated with the family, the people of Ikere, the entire Ekiti South Senatorial District and Ekiti people in general.
After the church service, his remains were interred at his residence amidst tears, prayers and glowing encomiums.
