The Executive arm of Oyo State Government has been urged to put necessary machinery in motion towards creating fire service stations across the 33 local government areas for quick response to fire outbreak.
The urge was contained in a motion moved by a lawmaker representing Kajola State Constituency Hon. Musibau Azeez during the house plenary.
According to him, creation of fire service stations across the 33 local government areas in the state would promptly address the issue of sudden fire outbreak in the local government areas.
The legislator in his motion noted that section 14 (2) (b) of the constitution of the federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as altered) established that the primary purpose of government is to provide security and welfare for the people they govern, hence the urge to the state government.
“If adequate measures are not taken to create more fire service stations across the 33 local government areas which will be closer to communities to serve as rapid response and rescue station in case of fire outbreak, people’s lives and property would still be at risk. That’s is why I am urging the executive arm of government to expedite action in this regard.”
Hon Azeez “Action” recalled that two major property worth millions of Naira were totally raised down in his constituency due to unfortunate fire incidents that occurred.
According to him, the property, SIAM Petrol station at Orita , along Ilero road and Palm Plus Hotel along Lafihan Quarters , Okeho could have been salvaged if there were fire service stations located nearby to put out the fire when it occured.
He noted that most of the existing fire service stations are faced with challenges of inadequate logistics and equipment which include non availability of fire fighting vehicles, manpower, and inadequate encouraging incentives and hazard allowance for officers and workers.
In his prayers, he urged the executive arm of government to provide adequate logistics and equipment in terms of fire fighting vehicles among others to enable the Officers and workers discharge their work effectively.
He also urged the state fire service agency to engage the public through sensitization and educative programmes that will sensitize them on the development.
Members of the house in their contributions described the motion as a welcome development, urging government to expedite action on the issues.
