Chairman Oyo state Ohanaeze Youth wing Chief Wilfred Madu has applauded the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the land mark Supreme Court judgement on local government financial autonomy.
Recalled that the apex court ruled that henceforth all the 774 local governments in the nation are get the monthly allocation from the Abuja instead of the previous practice where state Governors get on the behalf in what was known as Joint Account which they have subsequently diverted thus stifling development at the grassroots for long.
Speaking in Ibadan, the Ohanaeze Youth Wing Chairman stated that the judgement was a soothing balm on the local government noting that with the development, local governments will now have funds with which to work and solve the numerous problems facing them at the grassroots instead of waiting for one Governor who does not even know their problems let alone solving.
“Those at the grassroots know one another very well and know the problems on ground and with funds will be able to solve this problem since there is money “ he noted.
He observed that it is now that the local government will attract quality leadership and intellectuals who will go into politics and governance at that level hence helping to bring accelerated growth and development in the local government instead of the decay and wrath that is the order in the areas.
