


The Vice-Chancellor of Emmanuel Alayande University of Education, Oyo, Professor Olanrewaju ‘Lanre’ Olaniyan, has marked his 59th birthday amid tributes from the university community.
The Management and Staff described the milestone, celebrated today, Saturday, June 27, 2026, as a testament to his impactful leadership since assuming office.
Professor Olaniyan was appointed as the pioneer Vice-Chancellor of the institution by Governor Seyi Makinde on August 9, 2023.
The Registrar, Mrs. Olubunmi Siju-Asunmo, said the university celebrates a leader whose tenure has fostered harmony and growth.
“The entire Management and Staff today celebrate our Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olanrewaju Olaniyan, as he turns 59. Your leadership has brought peace and harmony to our University system and that has led us to recording tremendous progress,” she said.
“We pray that God Almighty shall continue to strengthen you and imbue you with knowledge to further paddle the canoe of our dear institution,” she added.
Distinguished Scholar and Administrator
Born in Eruwa on June 27, 1967, the VC attended Loyola College, Ibadan, graduating in 1982. He holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Ibadan and a Bachelor’s degree in Educational Management and Economics.
A Professor of Economics, he was the immediate past Director of the Centre for Sustainable Development, University of Ibadan. He was also a Senior Associate Member at St. Anthony’s College, University of Oxford, in 2007, and a Visiting Research Scholar at Cornell University, USA, in 2005.
With over 27 years’ experience in research, consulting and teaching, his areas include Health and Population Economics, Economics of Education, Poverty Analysis, and Social Protection.
He has over 150 scholarly publications and has consulted for the World Bank, WHO, UNESCO, and UNFPA. He has also presented at conferences in more than 60 countries across five continents and serves on the Academic Steering Committee of the Global Master in Development Practice Association, Columbia University, New York.
