The NDC closed the sale of Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms for the presidency on Sunday, May 17, 2026, with party sources confirming that Obi was the only aspirant to purchase the forms.

While the presidential window is now shut, the party extended the deadline for other positions by one week. Aspirants for governorship, Senate, House of Representatives, and State Assembly seats now have until midnight on Sunday, May 24, 2026, to collect their forms.

In a statement, NDC National Secretary Ikenna Morgan Enekweizu said screening for those who submitted forms will run from May 19 to May 26, 2026. Collection and return of nomination forms for cleared aspirants will take place within the same window.

The party warned that no further extension would be granted and directed aspirants to appear for screening with required documents, including academic certificates, ID, party membership card, and six copies of all submissions. Screening will weigh electorate preference, local context, competence, character, and the party’s affirmative action policy for women, youths, and persons with disabilities.

Obi, a former Anambra governor who recently defected to the NDC from the African Democratic Congress, is now positioned to be confirmed as the party’s presidential flagbearer.

The NDC encouraged consensus-building and said only aspirants cleared through screening would qualify to purchase nomination forms.
