Chairman, Igbo Traders Association, Bodija market in Ibadan,Chief Ogonnaya Nwaezah Nwokoro has wooed Governor Seyi Makinde over the condition of his colleagues at the place.
Chief Nwaezah who pleaded on behalf of his kinsmen states that the condition of his colleagues is worse off while all entreaties to Governor Seyi Makinde over their plight seems to have amounted to nothing thus making it difficult for them to have a section where they can display what they sell.
He said that his men hang about without any shop in the market now contrary to what obtains in the past when many of them had shops of their own.
The Chairman stated that things were made so bad for many of his kinsmen to the extent that they are exposed to the vagaries of whether conditions of rain and sunshine adding that their situation is further compounded by the high cost of shops which is beyond the reach of his people.
He disclosed that shops within the edifice cost millions of Naira stressing that this is very expensive and outrageous for many of them who are petty traders and peasants.
Chief Nwaezah revealed that only him has a shop in the market among his kinsmen because of the exorbitant nature of the shops which cost millions to procure positing that this situation is very much unpalatable since they contribute to the commerce and growth and development of the market and indeed Ibadan and Oyo state.
He therefore pleaded with Governor Makinde to ameliorate their plight whose condition is deplorable and pitiable.
“ We Igbos in Bodija market are suffering since shops were destroyed and bulldozed by a contractor who built many shops after the destruction” he pointed out.
“ My people have had no place where they can even sell any of their goods especially the soup ingredients and fresh food items such that their goods are rendered useless by rain whenever it falls “ Chief Nwaezah said further.
