President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has been enjoined to release forthwith the leader of the Indigenous People Of Biafra ( IPOB) Mazi Nnamdi Kanu who is being held at the custody of the Directorate State Security ( DSS)
Speaking against the backdrop of numerous calls and request for the release of Kanu, a staunch member of the Oyo State Chapter of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Anthony Okeke also known as Onwa Ndigbo noted that the release of the later is overdue.
Chief Okeke who is also the Chief Priest of Ogwugwu Achuka ancient diety stated that it was appalling that the IPOB leader who committed no crime is languishing in detention despite court orders that he should be released .
Recalled that a federal high court in Abuja ruled that Kanu should be released with some financial compensation given to him by the federal government for trampling on his right and freedom.
However, successive governments from Major General Muhammadu Buhari rtd to Tinubu have refused to head the court order rather had subjected him to trials since after he was abducted from Kenya and clapped in detention thereafter.
Chief Okeke urged President Tinubu to use his power to grant Kanu’s freedom so that there will be peace in the south east of Nigeria where insecurity has been riffed due the detention of the IPOB leader adding that the release of Kanu will make Tinubu to be more popular in the south east while 70% of Yorubas will applaud him bearing in mind that the late Afenifere leader Pa Ayo Adebanjo had called for his release many times before his death .
The Ohanaeze leader opined that the release of Kanu will put a stop to all the numerous crimes occurring in the south east as the perpetrators will have no excuse than to stop.
