Oyo State Governor, ‘Seyi Makinde has reaffirmed that the state can generate its own electricity without relying on the national grid, assuring that the state Independent Power Project when completed, will improve power supply in the state as well as stabilise the Light-Up Oyo project.
Governor Makinde gave the assurance at the 10th edition of Omituntun Mega Praise and End of the year thanksgiving tagged, “Extravagant Praise” (Iyin Ola-Nla), held on Monday at the Government House Arcade, Agodi, Ibadan.
The governor, who frowned at the non functioning of street lights on major streets at night especially during this Yuletide, attributed it to some inadequacies on the part of handlers of the project.
He however, expressed optimism that when the distribution network of the state’s independent power project is completed, electricity supply would improve and the light-Up Oyo project will as well stabilise.
The governor, who said his political future would be determined by God, noted that new set of young leaders must be nurtured and given the opportunity to exhibit their talents in governance.
He equally appreciated labour unions for their support and charged them to continue to support his government.
Earlier, Prophet Peter Owa had stressed the need for people to always honour God.
Highlights of the mega praise were song ministrations, prayers and display of fireworks.
