Governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, in Oyo State, Taofeeq Adegboyega Adegoke has promised to construct at least 10 kilometres of inner roads in each of the 33 local governments* within his first 100 days in office if elected in 2027.

Adegoke also unveiled plans to build an Ibadan-Saki rail line, equip science laboratories in public schools, triple farm yields, and grant full autonomy to local governments as part of his agenda to restore Oyo’s lost glory.

He made the promises on Monday in Ibadan during the inauguration of the ADC Campaign Council and Advisory Team for the February 6, 2027 governorship election.

“Within the first 100 days of my government, every local government must construct at least 10 kilometres of inner roads. I am talking about inner roads, not major roads that are the responsibility of the state government,” he said.

The ADC candidate declared that his administration would wage a determined war against poverty and insecurity, which he described as the two biggest challenges confronting the state.

“Security is a war that must be won. Poverty is a war that must be won, and we are going to win both,” Adegoke said.He said the campaign would be issue-based and driven by extensive grassroots engagement across the 33 LGs.

“We are going to carry everyone along and leave nobody behind. We will speak to our people in the language they understand, breaking down our programmes to the simplest possible level,” he said.

To boost agriculture, Adegoke promised the construction of a rail line from Ibadan to Saki to ease movement of farm produce from the state’s food basket to markets. He also pledged improved seeds and inputs to help farmers increase productivity.

“If you have been producing one tonne of maize per hectare, we will provide improved inputs that can enable you to produce three tonnes. If you can increase your production, you will make more money and educate your children,” he said.

In education, he promised major investment in STEM – Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, and the re-equipping of school laboratories.

“When I was at Olivet Baptist High School, during Biology practicals, we were given guinea pigs. That experience helped to encourage some of us to develop interest in science. We are going to equip our laboratories,” he said.

Adegoke promised full autonomy for the 33 LGs and monthly security meetings involving council chairmen, security agencies and traditional institutions. He also pledged to fund traditional councils as stipulated by law so they can contribute effectively to security.

“When you say a traditional ruler should ensure security in his area, you must support him financially and morally. If they fail to perform after being given the resources, there must be consequences,” he said.

On the civil service, he assured workers of no indiscriminate retrenchment, he said “We are going to retain civil servants and make them more productive. Those not in the right positions will be retrained and redeployed. We are not going to fire anybody,” he said.

The candidate lamented that Oyo State was still trading on past achievements instead of creating new ones.

“The first television station in Africa was established here. The University of Ibadan was established here. The first dual carriageway was constructed here. But what are we presenting today? We are still living in past glory. I will change the story,” he said.

“By the time we finish our eight-year tenure, we will be leaving behind a vibrant, dynamic and prosperous state. When we leave Government House, we will have restored the name and glory of the state,” Adegoke added.

He charged members of the campaign council to take the ADC’s message of solutions, accountability, inclusive development and grassroots empowerment to the people across the state’s 33 local government areas.

Earlier in his remarks, the Oyo State ADC Chairman, Afees Jimoh, said the party had uploaded all its candidates to INEC and commended Adegboy for his commitment.

“Today is the inauguration of the campaign committee of ADC and our governorship candidate. We are ready for 2027,” Jimoh said.
