The Okanlomo Odua and Bada Olubadan of Ibadanland, Chief Dotun Sanusi, has cautioned politicians against making disrespectful statements about the Olubadan stool, warning that such remarks carry “deep political and cultural consequences.”
In a statement issued on Saturday to newsmen, Chief Sanusi said any spoken word directed against the sacred institution of the Olubadan is not merely a statement but a challenge to the foundation of Ibadan unity.
“Ibadanland stands on a proud heritage where tradition, leadership, and respect for the Olubadan stool are inseparable from the identity of its people,” he said. “To speak carelessly or disrespectfully about this institution is to challenge the very foundation upon which Ibadan unity is built.”
Chief Sanusi warned politicians that the loyalty of Ibadan people is firmly rooted in their reverence for traditional authority. “Any act, statement, or rhetoric that undermines this institution will not be taken lightly and may result in the loss of political goodwill and support,” he stated.
He described the warning as “a call for caution, respect, and wisdom in public discourse,” stressing that the voice of Ibadanland is united, and its heritage must be honored at all times.
The Olubadan stool is regarded as one of the most respected traditional institutions in Yorubaland, with a unique ascension system that has ensured stability in Ibadanland for centuries.
