He described the PVC as more than an identification document, calling it a symbol of civic duty and a critical instrument for ensuring citizens’ voices are reflected in governance.

Adelakun expressed concern over recurring voter apathy and last-minute registration efforts, which he said have disenfranchised many eligible voters, particularly youths and residents in rural communities. He noted that thousands are often unable to vote during elections due to failure to register early or complete the process in time.

“Every election cycle, we see people turned away because they did not act early. This should not continue. The time to act is now, not when elections are imminent,” he said.

He urged eligible voters, especially those who have recently reached voting age, to take advantage of ongoing registration opportunities. According to him, early registration helps to avoid delays, technical challenges, and overcrowding at registration centres as elections approach.

Highlighting the broader significance of civic engagement, Adelakun Eruobodo stated that voting is both a right and a responsibility that directly influences governance, development, and accountability.

He warned that failure to participate in elections effectively transfers decision-making power to a limited segment of the population.

He called for renewed interest in the democratic process, noting that they represent a significant portion of the population and hold the potential to shape electoral outcomes. He encouraged them to see obtaining a PVC as the first step toward securing their future.

Adelakun Eruobodo also appealed to community leaders, religious bodies, market associations, and civil society organisations across the state to intensify voter education efforts. He urged them to support awareness campaigns and assist individuals who may encounter difficulties during registration.

He reassured residents that the PVC registration process is straightforward when undertaken early and advised citizens to rely on official sources for accurate information regarding schedules and requirements. He further reminded voters to safeguard their cards, noting that PVCs remain valid for multiple election cycles.

Concluding his remarks, Adelakun reiterated that the strength of democracy depends on active citizen participation. He encouraged residents of Oyo State to view the 2027 general elections as an opportunity to make informed choices that will shape the state’s future.

“The journey to 2027 begins now,” he said. “Let us prepare, participate, and ensure that every voice counts.”
