The Representative and Chairman of Isu Okoma in Oyo state Ohaneze Ndigbo Jerry Uzor has stated that the minimum wage should be between seven thousand and one hundred thousand naira.
Uzor who made the submission in Ibadan noted that the minimum wage would have serious ramifications in the labour force in Nigeria bearing in mind that their is also the private sector which engages workers.
He observed that the percentage of the organized labour which is the Trade Union Congress (TUC) and the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) is not more than 3% noting that they therefore should know that their activities have serious consequences that will affect dismally the entire labor force in Nigeria.
Uzor explained that they should know that there is the private sector which employs majority of the labour force in Nigeria adding that if the organized labour insists on collecting the sum of two hundred sixty thousand, then it would put the private sector in a difficult problems of inability to pay because the amount being bandied is outrageous and beyond what they can pay.
Instead, he urged that they should accept between seventy thousand and one hundred thousand naira so that the private sector will be able to pay pointing out that if the opposite is done then the cost prices of items sold in the market will increase astronomically beyond the reach of Nigerians thus making their purchasing power low.
Against this background, the Isu/ Okoma representative in Ohaneze in Oyo state said that what should be done is that electricity should be made to be regular so that the prices of most items will drop just as the roads to the rural areas where food are brought are in good condition so that food prices will reduce to make life bearable and meaningful to Nigerians.
