Former Vice Chairman,Oyo State Tennis Association Tunde Oyediran has said Nigeria World record holder in the one hundred and ten (110) meters hurdles event, Tobilola Amusan was a bit careless for not subjecting herself to the random tests of the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU).
Oyediran who spoke in Ibadan stated that Amusan who had won three consecutive events recently ought to have known that she is the cynosure of all eyes being watched by everyone and as such should be up to date regarding random tests.
He noted that the AIU being quiet initially was a trap which Amusan fell into adding that as a leading athlete she ought to know better.
“ She was a bit careless in as much as the rules guiding the game is concerned “ he said” she ought to have done the tests at least twice a year”.
The former Vice Chairman explained that there is a special focus on athletes when they are doing well not only in Nigeria but also in America especially when you are a black athlete that is doing well pointing out that Amusan fell into the booby trap set for her by the AIU when they pretended that the test did not matter initially.
“AIU should have insisted that she did the test but kept quiet until she missed the third tests as if they did not know “ he posited “. she was suspended because she had failed to do the random tests which is a prerequisite for athlete before any athletics competition thrice”.
Oyediran said further that he was of the view that Amusan would be free of the allegation against her if she did the test and come out clean stressing that the reason for the suspension was to give room for investigation which will determine whether she has been using dope or any banned substances.
He emphasized that the world record holder in the 110 meter hurdles event played into the hands of the AIU by ignoring the test knowing fully well that this is not Nigeria where rules are not followed strictly even though the AIU set a booby trap for her through their conduct in the first place.
