SAO urges secondary school students to shun cultism, hard drugs, other social vices

The Executive Chairman of Afijio Local Government, Hon. Sunday Akindele Ojo (SAO) has appealed to students in Afijio Local Government most especially the Secondary School students to shun cultism, hard drugs, smoking, alcohol, and the like so as to be relevant in the nearest future.

This was made known during a day sensitization to Stop Cultism and Hard Drugs in Secondary Schools held at the Council Secretariat, Jobele. Where each Secondary School in Afijio Local Government sent representatives to be part of the program.
The program is tagged ” Operation Campus Storm”(OPS), and the convener of the program is Dr. Olufemi Micheal from the University of Ibadan.

The Council boss who was represented by his Chief of Staff Hon. Wumi Akinrinola said the rate of involvement of Secondary School Students in Cultism nowadays is very alarming, hence the need to seek God’s intervention.

Hon. Sunday Akindele Ojo further called on parents, teachers, religious leaders, and community leaders to collaborate with the government in eradicating cultism and the like from our secondary schools. He urged the students to choose good friends and join reputable groups like; the Red Cross, Rotary Club, School Fellowship, Muslim Student Society(MSS), Girls Brigade, and so on.

According to Dr. Olufemi Micheal, this program is organized in response to the emotional calls from the Executive Governor of Oyo State His Excellency Governor Seyi Makinde for total eradication of cultism, hard drugs from secondary schools in Oyo State.

Dr. Olufemi Michael explained further that; the peer group, and social media influence are the major tools that contribute to the increase of cultism and hard drugs. He also said cultism and hard drugs are the foundation of criminalities that lead to Yahoo Plus, kidnapping, and ritual killings in which youths believe they can gain fame and quick wealth. And a quick wealth is a quick death because there is no good gift from evil.
He finally pleaded for the student to desist from bad groups, hard drugs, cultism, smoking, alcohol, cybercrime, political thugs, and examination malpractice to become a future leader.

Mr. Akeem Akintayo a teacher at Oladokun Grammer School, Awe while giving his remarks, commended the Oyo State Governor and Hon. Sunday Akindele Ojo for this laudable initiative while he urged the authority to bring back the guardian counselor’s office to our Secondary Schools and extend this anti-cultism and hard drugs campaign to parents as well.

In attendance were; The Head of the Local Administration Alhaja Amdalat Salau, the Director of Administration Mr. David Omotoso, the Director of Finance and Supplies Mrs. Janet Oyedare, the Director of Education Mrs Adedayo Olabode, the Director of Budget Adeoye Akinkunmi, Nulge Exco’s, teachers among others.
