Era of appointing Caretaker Chairmen gone in Oyo, says OYSIEC boss

The Chairman, Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC), Aare  Isiaka Abiola Olagunju, (SAN) has said the era of appointing caretaker chairmen in local government in Oyo state has gone; saying, residents need to come out En masse  to play their parts in the forth coming local government election in the state.

Aare Olagunju said this during his visit to the Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State (BCOS), just as he reiterated the commitment of the Commission to conduct a credible election on April 27, 2024.

Olagunju called for support of the station ahead of the Chairmanship and Councillors Election to have a massive turnout on election day.

He said the Commission sees the need to collaborate with BCOS in sensitizing the people in the nooks and crannies of the state to achieve its mandates.

He said It is not an overstatement that our people are not concerned about Local government elections, for this, Sensitization and voter education have to be continuous.

“ Our target is at least to have 50 percent turnout of registered voters,  to achieve this feat, we need your station to assist in sensitizing the people at the grassroots on the need to come out on election day as we intend to reach the entire state, especially the grassroots using your broadcasting network”.

The era of writing election results as claimed in some quarters has gone, we are absolutely independent as a commission, and we are committed to having a free, fair, credible and transparent election “.

Responding, the Chairman of the Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State (BCOS), Chief (Mrs.) Dotun Olaitan , said concerted efforts should be made in stabilizing the polity of Oyo state.

She assured the Commission of effective collaboration in the area of compelling programmes , sensitization and voter  education.

She said the station’s management is ever ready support the cause of the Commission, saying the commission should not relent but intensify efforts on voter education. 

“Just intimate us of your programmes and activities on time  and we will rise up to the occasion”
