The Tinubu Touch Bearers (TTB), Oyo State chapter, has expressed confidence that women across the South-West will play a decisive role in securing President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in the 2027 presidential election, with the organisation saying its grassroots mobilisation in Oyo is part of a broader effort to consolidate support for the President in the region.
The Oyo State Media Coordinator of TTB, Hon. Princess Yetunde-Ajetunmobi Wuraola, stated this in an interview with journalists in Ibadan on Wednesday, saying the group would intensify grassroots engagement with women across the state ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Yetunde-Ajetunmobi said women remained a critical force in Nigeria’s electoral process and that TTB was determined to ensure that they were adequately informed about the policies and programmes of the Tinubu administration before making their choices at the polls.
She said the emergence of TTB in Oyo State had created another platform through which women could participate more actively in political discussions and communicate the policies and programmes of the Federal Government to people at the grassroots.
Yetunde-Ajetunmobi said, “The establishment of TTB in Oyo State is about taking political engagement closer to the people. We want to build a structure that will not only mobilise women but also ensure that they are properly informed and actively involved in the democratic process.“
“Women are critical stakeholders in Nigeria’s political development. They are present in virtually every community and are often at the centre of decisions that affect families and communities.“
“We therefore believe that their voices must be heard and their participation in governance must be strengthened.”
She said the organisation would engage women and other stakeholders through community-level activities, stressing that its approach would be centred on mobilisation, information sharing and political participation ahead of the 2027 elections.
According to her, “Our mobilisation will be grassroots-based. We are going to engage women in the different communities, listen to them, communicate with them and make sure they understand the issues surrounding governance and the direction of the country.“
“We are not waiting until 2027 before beginning this work. The preparation has started, and our responsibility is to sustain the engagement, strengthen our structures and ensure that our members are ready for the political activities ahead.”
She said TTB would also work towards strengthening the involvement of women in democratic processes, particularly at the grassroots, where political conversations and mobilisation often determine electoral outcomes.
“We want women to understand that participation in democracy goes beyond voting on election day. Women should be part of political conversations, community development, policy discussions and decision-making.“
“An informed woman is in a better position to understand what is happening in her country and make responsible choices. That is why information and communication will remain central to what we are doing,” Yetunde-Ajetunmobi said.
The media coordinator said the group recognised the importance of women in Nigeria’s political development and would continue to encourage them to participate actively in issues concerning governance and national development.
She added that the organisation would use its communication structures to highlight what it described as the achievements and policy direction of the Tinubu administration, while encouraging citizens to make informed decisions as the 2027 elections approach.
“We will communicate the policies and programmes of the administration and explain them in a way that people at the grassroots can understand. Our people deserve access to information about what the government is doing and how those policies are intended to affect their lives.“
“TTB will continue to provide that communication link. We will take the message to the communities, engage the people and encourage them to pay attention to national issues,“ she said.
Speaking further, Yetunde-Ajetunmobi said the establishment of the Oyo chapter represented an opportunity to build a structured grassroots network capable of engaging women across the state’s political and social communities.
“The inauguration has given us a clear mandate and, more importantly, a responsibility to work. We have to take the message to the grassroots and make sure that our structures are functional, visible and accessible.“
“We are going to work across communities and engage women from different backgrounds. Whether they are traders, professionals, farmers, artisans, young women or community leaders, everyone has a role to play in the political development of our country.”
She said TTB would prioritise communication and engagement, particularly in ensuring that political messages and information about government programmes reached communities beyond the major urban centres.
“We do not want our activities to be concentrated only in Ibadan or in major political gatherings. Our focus is the grassroots. We want to reach the women in the communities and create a continuous channel of engagement with them,” Yetunde-Ajetunmobi said.
She also stressed the need for women to remain active participants in the democratic process, saying their involvement should extend beyond election-day voting to include political education, community engagement and participation in governance.
“Women should not be treated merely as election-day voters or political mobilisers. Women are stakeholders in governance, and they must be encouraged to participate meaningfully at every level.“
“Political participation should give women an opportunity to contribute ideas, ask questions, understand policies and make their voices count. That is the kind of participation we want to encourage through TTB,” she said.
On the 2027 elections, the TTB media coordinator said the Oyo chapter was preparing to strengthen its structures across the state and ensure that its members were adequately positioned for the political activities ahead.
“We are ready for 2027. Our preparation is going to be deliberate and continuous. We are building a network that will be present in communities and capable of communicating with the people effectively.“
“Our members understand that this is a responsibility. We have to be disciplined, organised and committed to peaceful political engagement. We will continue to mobilise and communicate our message as the election approaches.”
Yetunde-Ajetunmobi said the group would also promote peaceful political participation and responsible communication among its members, stressing that political mobilisation should not become a source of division within communities.
“We want our engagement to be positive and constructive. Politics should not destroy relationships or communities. We will encourage our members to communicate respectfully, avoid inflammatory rhetoric and focus on issues that are important to the people,” she said.
Yetunde-Ajetunmobi said the Oyo chapter would build on the momentum generated by the inauguration by expanding its reach and maintaining sustained contact with women across the state.
“We have started, and we are determined to continue. The inauguration is not the end of the process; it is the beginning of the work ahead.“
“We will strengthen our structures, engage our women and continue to communicate with the grassroots. Our message is about participation, engagement and ensuring that women are properly positioned to contribute to the political process as Nigeria moves towards 2027,“ she said.
The Oyo State chapter of TTB was formally inaugurated on Monday at the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium, Oke Ado, Ibadan, by the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, represented at the event by the Minister of Women Affairs, Hajiya Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, as part of efforts by the women’s wing of the All Progressives Congress to establish a grassroots mobilisation structure ahead of the general elections.
In her message read by the minister, the First Lady said the administration was working to deliver the dividends of democracy to Nigerians and urged support for the government, while stressing the importance of continuity in the ongoing economic reforms.
She argued that continuity would enable the administration to consolidate its policies and programmes, according to a report of the inauguration by Radio Nigeria Ibadan.
