


In a historic transition at Headquarters, 2 Division, Nigerian Army (NA), Major General Auwalu Mahmuda has assumed command as the 56th General Officer Commanding (GOC), 2 Division, NA. The symbolic handing and taking over ceremony took place at Headquarters 2 Division, Adekunle Fajuyi Cantonment, Ibadan Oyo State, today 3 August 2026.
Speaking, the newly appointed GOC, profoundly thanked the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu for finding him worthy of the appointment. He further assured of his commitment to take the Division to an enviable heights, adding that it is a rare opportunity to command one of the premier Divisions in the NA.
The GOC, eulogised the immediate past GOC, Major General Chinedu Ralph Nnebeife for the incredible achievements he has recorded during his sojourn in the Division. He also reassured that he will build on the legacies bequeathed, by ensuring he keeps the flag flying.
Earlier, the outgone GOC, Major General Nnebeife expressed his heartfelt appreciation to the CDS, General OO Oluyede, who then as COAS appointed him to command the Division. He equally expressed his appreciation to the COAS, for the opportunity to have commanded the Division and his subsequent appointment to command one of the newly established Divisions in the NA. This he said, is a privilege he will never take for granted. He added that since assumption of command on 19 August 2025, the Division under his watch has achieved a lot both operationally and otherwise.
Major General Nnebeife thanked all the commanders and staff officers for their incredible cooperation and support. This he said, enabled the Division to have recorded tremendous achievements, with several successful operations, which climaxed with the recent rescue operations on the 10 July 2026.
He attributed the successes to efforts of officers, soldiers as well as the prayers of the entire Division, which made it possible for them to have collectively achieved all the success stories. He promised to be a worthy ambassador of the Tiger Family, as he proceed to head the newly established 10 Division in Jalingo, Taraba State. He urged all the officers and soldiers to extend the same cooperation and support they accorded him to the new GOC.
