The Oyo State Governor , Seyi Makinde on Tuesday took delivery of the two surveillance aircraft it acquired to strengthen security operations across the state.
Makinde who received the aircrafts at the Ladoke Akintola International Airport, Alakia, Ibadan said the delivery fulfilled its earlier assurance that the aircraft would arrive in Ibadan before the end of July.
He said the arrival of the aircrafts marked a new era in the security architecture of the state
In a statement issued earlier by the Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade, the government described the arrival of the aircraft as another milestone in its efforts to improve intelligence gathering and aerial surveillance.
“The arrival of the aircraft marks another step in the state’s efforts to strengthen security operations through improved intelligence gathering and aerial surveillance,” Oyelade said.
He recalled that the state government announced the purchase of the two surveillance aircraft on July 8, 2025, as part of measures to enhance the capacity of security agencies to tackle emerging security challenges across the state.
The commissioner further recalled that Governor Seyi Makinde had, on July 18, 2026, confirmed that the aircraft had arrived in Nigeria and were undergoing reassembly at the Nigerian Air Force’s hangar in Lagos.
He said the state government had, about a week earlier, assured residents that the aircraft would arrive in Oyo State before the end of July, adding that their arrival had fulfilled that promise.
According to him, the aircraft are expected to support security agencies, including the Amotekun Corps and other relevant security formations, in monitoring criminal activities and improving response efforts across the state.
Oyelade also disclosed that Makinde was at the airport to receive the two surveillance aircraft upon their arrival.
