The All Progressives Congress (APC) says its House of Representatives primaries in Oyo State were peaceful and transparent across all 14 federal constituencies, with 74 aspirants cleared to contest ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Chairman of the APC National Assembly Primary Election Committee for Oyo State, Prof. Mojeed Alabi confirmed this on Saturday while briefing journalists at the party secretariat in Oke-Ado, Ibadan.

Alabi, a former Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the primaries, stressing that no incidents of violence or major disputes were recorded during the exercise.

“Seventy-four aspirants were cleared by the National Secretariat. We don’t have the number of the uncleared aspirants,” he said.

The committee chairman explained that the panel was mandated to supervise the elections, monitor the process across all constituencies, collate results, ensure compliance with party guidelines, and forward its report to the APC National Secretariat for final ratification and announcement of results.

“Our responsibility is to superintend over the process, collate results, ensure that things are done properly, and transmit our report to the national executive of the party. It is the national leadership that has the final authority to declare the results,“ Alabi stated.

He further clarified that the primaries were not conducted at a single central venue, but simultaneously across wards within the federal constituencies in line with established party procedures.

“We are to conduct the National Assembly primaries in all the 14 federal constituencies. Our own work is to superintend, collate the results and submit the reports to the National Secretariat. It is the National Secretariat that will announce the results of the elections,” Alabi said.

“We are not to stay at a particular place. We are to monitor the elections. Our committee is not an appeal committee.”

Alabi reaffirmed the committee’s commitment to fairness and transparency, noting that members remained conscious of the scrutiny and oversight of the party’s national leadership throughout the exercise.

“We are committed to transparency, fairness, and doing what is right within the limits of available logistics,” he stated, adding that the exercise was conducted without bias or favouritism.

He advised aspirants or party members dissatisfied with the conduct of the primaries to channel their grievances through the party’s appeal mechanism, stressing that all disputes arising from the exercise would be handled by the appeals committee.

The committee chairman added that the successful conduct of the primaries underscored the APC’s commitment to strengthening internal democracy as part of its preparations for the 2027 general elections.

Earlier, the Oyo State APC Chairman, Moses Adeyemo, commended the election committee for the orderly conduct of the exercise and urged party members to ensure outcomes acceptable to aspirants and stakeholders across the state.
